Companion Hunter Application
● Should be an experienced hunter
● Should have completed a firearms safety/hunter safety education course or equivalent
● Should be proficient in field and trophy care of animals
● Should have a compassionate and caring personality with an understanding of helping people with disabilities
● First aid/CPR certification is recommended information Companion Hunter/Volunteer
Guidelines
● Get to know your hunter and their needs
● May need to assist with transportation
● Assist hunter with equipment necessary for hunt (i.e., Bipod/Tripod, Portable Heater, track chair, etc.)
● Assist with obtaining Hunter Management Area (HMA) Permission slips (as needed) o If hunting in a HMA, ensure that the Vehicle Permission Slip is visible in the front windshield of the vehicle o If hunting in a HMA, read and understand the site specific rules of the HMA
● Make sure shooting background is safe
● Cape, field dress, de-bone animal for cooling and transportation
● Take animal to meat processor (as needed)
● Assist hunter with taxidermy selection and delivery (as needed)
● Ensure hunter complies with Game and Fish Regulations
● Orange hat or vest
● Bear deterrent (as needed)
● Rifle and bullets to dispatch a wounded animal (if necessary)
● Knife and saw
● Range finder
● Binoculars/spotting scope
● G&F Companion Hunter Letter (carry in possession while in the field)
*To help offset travel costs, Western Wyoming Disabled Hunters offers companion hunters fuel reimbursement of up to $0.50 per gallon for travel associated with approved hunts and activities.
Hunter Application 2026
Refer to the Wyoming G&F website or your local G&F office to understand Wyoming G&F disabled license qualification criteria. Download then complete Wyoming G&F applications. Apply for and receive all your disabled licenses for which you are eligible through Wyoming G&F Disabled Hunter, Shoot-from-Vehicle, and/or Season-Extension). Complete them and submit to Wyoming G&F in Cheyenne, WY. Their address is at the bottom of each form.) Note: these disabled licenses are separate from game tags/permits)
*To help make participation more accessible, Western Wyoming Disabled Hunters will reimburse approved travel expenses up to $1,000 per hunter. Eligible expenses may include airfare, fuel, and lodging associated with travel to and from an approved hunt or activity.
Reimbursement details and required documentation will be coordinated with Western Wyoming Disabled Hunters.
